"I Make. You Wear It." is an innovative fashion venture that touched my heart. I Make. You Wear It started in August 2010 when Rachel Burke started making dresses every Saturday night for 20 consecutive weeks. Through this endeavor She raised over $5,000 for the charity NAPCAN: preventing child abuse.

On April 29th 2011, she took this concept one step further and, started "I Make My Day". She has been making dresses from scratch every day, and plans to do so for an entire year. The color pallet of this collection consists of a beautiful combination of dark-rich blues and greens, and soft hints of pale lavender and grey. The very structured, and somewhat masculine inspired garments are complimented with high waisted silhouettes, feminine textures, and subtle girly details (i.e. the hemline of the scallop shorts). It's official, ShopRuche, is my new favorite online boutique. The story about how the shop came about is absolutely endearing. Ruche was created and designed by newlyweds Mai and Josh Olivo in 2008. Mai was having a difficult time finding clothes that she liked. (I definitely know the feeling.) Anyway, she started to sell clothing and jewelry online that she loved! She then created ShopRuche, which started from their own home. Mind you, at this point Mai and Josh were still working their 8-5 jobs. So, they would ship packages during lunch, and answer emails during breaks. The day wasn't over yet though! As soon as Mai and Josh got home, they instantly went to work on Ruche, barley getting any sleep. (Sounds like my schedule here at college hah). They then took a leap of faith; Mai quit her job as a web developer and Josh quit his job in engineering management. "Leaving our budding careers in the corporate world was nerve racking, but it was the best decision we've made together, plus we could finally get some sleep!" Their story is so inspiring! It reminds me of an Eleanor Roosevelt quote, "the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

As I have mentioned in previous posts about this line, everything is handmade. The collection has a a beautiful dreamy almost ethereal-like vibe. A few years ago, I was one of 5,000 girls who participated in The Girl Project. It warms my heart to say that one of my photos was chosen to be featured in The Girl Project Book, set to release in August 2011. I received a disposable camera in the mail, and was asked to take photos of the world around me. The Girl Project, created in 2007 by Kate Engelbrecht, explores the world of female adolescence through the eyes of teenage girls. "Humans have long been fascinated by female adolescence. In today's world it not only piques our curiosity - it feeds our insatiable need for drama. [. . .] We fail to understand the complexity and the truth behind the very group we obsess on," Engelbrecht said. The fact that when you go to a thrift store there is a very high possibility you will walk out empty handed, is no secret. However, that doesn't stop us from spending hours digging because, finding a rare treasure is always worth it. That being said, I found out that there “is an online store selling new independent designer pieces from around the world and vintage finds from the American south.” Thrift stores in the Tristate area, in my opinion, don’t have the array of lovely vintage dresses that thrift stores in the south do. Why, oh why, do I not not live in London!? I was invited to attend Sägen Jewelry's viewing of the latest collection called "Dining with Grandma" whilst enjoying afternoon tea at Soho's famous Secret Tea Room. I wish I could have seen this beautiful collection in person! Sägen Jewelry is the most innovative jewelry collection I have seen in a while. All the jewelry is created from discarded china and porcelain! The idea came to the young Swedish designer, Elin, when she was on vacation in Gotland. Her father's garage is full of machines she has been playing with as a child. She learned how to grind stones during the day, and one evening a pile of porcelain from a local flee market was left next to a grinding machine. I think i'll leave the ending to the story to the enchanting photos of this lovely collection.

Lucia Holm is officially my new favorite photographer, and I have Alexandra Grecco (the designer of the collection in my previous post) to thank for bring her work to my attention. While reading Grecco's blog, I came across her exclusive interview with the aforementioned photographer. In the interview Holm reveals that she graduated form the Rhode Island School of Design with a bachelors degree in Fine Arts. Holm admits she did not initially intend on perusing a career in photography. However, after picking up her first camera Holms realized she had a real knack for it. Her story is extremely inspirational to me. She is proof that stepping out of your shell, and looking at the world from a new perspective, can heighten the chances of discovering things within ourself we never knew we were capable of. Sorry Robert Frost, but just because the "road was not taken" doesn't mean the opportunity won't arise later . Purchase your prints here!

I'm happy as a clam! Why is that you ask? Well, because I discovered the utterly delightful Alexandra Grecco line. That's why! The second I caught glimpse of this collection I was hooked. I can't help but feel like it was made for me. It spoke to me in a way that only those who appreciate the art of fashion can understand, and Alexandra definitely speaks the language. She had "[an] unyielding desire to encourage women to play dress-up in their everyday lives" and the result is this beautiful clothing line. Elizabeth Taylor, one of Hollywoods most beloved stars, passed away Wednesday. CNN reports have stated that she was "hospitalized six weeks ago for congestive heart failure, a condition which she has struggled for many years." It is difficult to sum up a woman of her stature in a single post. She holds the record for the most appearances on the cover Life magazine. Elizabeth's magnetism was undeniable as she led her life in the public eye, but there is much more behind those violet eyes. She was a star at the age of 12 after her role in MGM's National Velvet (1944) and then went on to become one of greatest movie stars of all time, receiving Oscars for her roles in Butterfield 8 (1960) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf (1966). Off screen Liz was known for her love affairs, married eight times but most notable to actor Richard Burton. With all this publicity it comes as no surprise that she was one of the most photographed women in history. Due to her grace, elegance, and personal style Liz became the style icon of her generation. She admirably used her notoriety to bring awareness to a number of charitable causes, and pioneered the campaign again HIV and AIDS. Elizabeth Taylor catapulted into fame; she is a legend, and legends never die.

Lauren Moffatt and her partner Rob Pepin met at Philadelphia College of Textile and Science, and launched their first vintage-inspired collection. Yeaaaah! Way to represent Philly Universities! She calls this season's lookbook "The Honeymooner and What She Packed". I can't stop sifting through this collection, and imagining myself in these outfits. I am a sucker for a soft color pallet, feminine-doll-like dresses, and socks paired with heels. This is my ideal Spring/Summer wardrobe. I am thinking about saving up and buying something... the only problem is it's going to be impossible to just pick one garment!

This photograph, taken in 1928 by famous Vogue fashion photographer Edward Stelchen, was the inspiration for Aya Nakagawa's, designer of Colemino, Spring/Summer 2011 collection. In honor of the fact that I wore heels the past two days, as opposed to those dreaded snow boots, I decided it's time to start posting about the lovely spring collections this season has to offer. I've been anxiously waiting to write about the french label, Carven, for quite sometime now. Each look is somewhat androgynous, yet still remains flirtatious and effortlessly chic. The masculine inspired aspects of the collection are perfectly contrasted by the high waisted feminine silhouettes, and delicate color pallet. Oh, and don't even get me started on those shoes! They are perfect, absolutely perfect. Spring, I beg of you, please come sooner rather than later! I'm sick of bundling up and trying to avoid slipping on that dirty city snow.

I was going to take an outfit shot today, but unfortunately my good old cannon point and shoot (emphasis on the old) finally kicked the bucket. I'm going to ask one of my talented photographer friends to do a photo shoot this weekend perhaps. The pictures will, undoubtably, turn out better anyway. Until then, here is a photo that I took sometime last summer. I don't find this outfit to be all that special frankly, which is probably why I didn't post it in the first place. However, it sure does make me miss the sun. Like I said, hopefully this weekend I will have more interesting and put together outfits so show you. For example the one I wore on my birthday this past monday! Thats right I am 19 now! It's officially my last year as a teenager. So far it has been full of exciting opportunities that I look forward to sharing with you. Anyway, back to homework land as my friends and I like to refer to it as. Oh, speaking of homework, I apologize to all that have contacted me within the past week or so for my delayed responses, it was mid-terms week. I assure you that I will get back to you as soon as I can. Having a blog and going to college is like walking on a tight rope, but hey i've got pretty good balance. No need to send in the clowns, I can out juggle all of 'em!

Catch me on the way to class, on the subway, or out with friends, and there is a 99% chance I am wearing high heels. This "wintery-mix", as weather.com likes to refer to it as, kind of weather is not exactly heel friendly. Still, I just can't bring myself to toss my favorite pair of vintage brown leather heels to the side. What's a girl to do? There are sheets of ice on the sidewalks, and sometimes even several inches of snow, and I have found it nearly impossible this season to find a more practical shoe option. However, I recently stumbled across a shoe line that made me eat my words! Penelope and Coco adorable and definitely more weather appropriate collection of unique oxfords shoes! Throw on some nice wool tights, or high waisted slacks, with a pair of Penelope and Coco shoes and you can forget about having to compromise your style for the sake of being warm! I'll take a size 5.5 in each, please.

This season I have posted about several lovely collections by a few of my personal favorite designers. Frankly, these lookbooks have featured numerous garments that I still dream (literally I dream about clothes all the time hah) of wearing some day. That being said, other than the collections I have already featured on my blog, I found this season rather bland. You may agree or disagree with my on this one, it's just my personal opinion. However, I have recently come across a plethora of Japanese designers that I find just as inspiring as the aforementioned designers I most frequently post about. Take this Japanese label, Aquagirl, for example isn't it absolutely stunning. This line encompasses the glamour of the 1940's, yet has a combination of 1950's and 1960's mod silhouettes thrown into the mix. Needless to say, I'm in love.

Frankly, after learning he never once took a class relating to fashion, his collections become even more awe-aspiring. "Shut Out The Moon"

"This collection is based off of Monsieur Adi’s remix of Spark’s 'Shut Out The Moon'. I thought of wolves when I saw the word 'moon', so incorporated fur into the look (if I had to make the fur coats, I’d use faux-fur, unless it’s requested to be real). I continued to link wolves to Native Americans, which I imagine to be warriors. That’s when I threw in the ridged fabric, because it looks badass, and warriors are badass. I think gladiators are warriors, so I thought strappy footwear would be appropriate. I hit a couple of trends spot on without realizing it; the strappy sandals, the coat, and the ridged effect. What I totally missed was the return of the kitten heel. I don’t like kitten heels, for the most part."

“Hedonism of the Upper Worlds”

"Inspired by Monsieur Adi’s remix of Overthrill’s “Upper Worlds feat. Miss Wonder” and Monsieur Adi’s own fantastic 'Hedonism'. The collection plays with the idea of luxury, pleasure and sexuality, using Roman and Greek inspired motifs clashed with a futuristic look. At one point, I thought, “if I was to be the costume designer for a remake of Caligula, how would I dress the cast?”. So, some looks are extremely risqué and tasteless. I was thinking about incorporating menswear too, since I don’t do too much of that, but I’d probably have them walk naked anyway."

“Place For Us”

"This is probably the first “collection” I designed. Based off Monsieur Adi’s remix of Reni Lane’s song. The remix is one of my all time favorites. With Reni Lane’s boyish voice, I knew I had to work with menswear. With the romantic feel of the song, I incorporated roses. The song also has a dark, melancholic feel. So, I looked towards vampires, specifically Count Dracula and his high collared coat. With the awesome guitar solo which reminds me of classic rock, I threw in leather pants and boots."

Who doesn’t love a good murder mystery? Especially when it is the theme of a particularly lovely designer’s lookbook for her A/W 2010 collection. Leave it to Rachel Antonoff to take something with a typically morbid connotation, and still make it appear to have an innocent and whimsical vibe. This collection might be one of my favorites of hers, with the vintage glasses, the cross between 20’s drop waist silhouettes, as well as high waisted slim fitting pants reminiscent of the 50s. Rachel Antonoff flawlessly incorporated various vintage aesthetics, with a modern twist, whilst still creating a cohesive collection. My hat goes off to you Rachel, I look forward your future collections.

Sifting through this editorial is rather upsetting, but not because the editorial itself was anywhere near disappointing. This is purely due to the fact, that for months now, I intended to base my first editorial shoot on a similar concept. However, if any magazine can execute my dream photo shoot flawlessly and to it's full potential, its W magazine. The styling for this shoot was done so impeccably, and is a true reflection of the art of fashion. The viewer is taken on a journey through beautiful images that evoke emotion and nostalgia manifested by the clothing worn in the editorial. This spread is absolutely inspirational and undoubtedly does justice to classic children's literature. So, I guess i'm not all that bitter about not jumping at the chance to illustrate my personal vision. You know what they say, "last one there's a rotten egg." or in Humpty Dumpty's case... a broken one.

There is so much more to fashion than what meets the eye. You might call that statement ironic or even a contradiction but I call it a fact. Before writing this post I wish I asked various people on the street what word or phrase comes to mind when hearing the word fashion, so I could have an actual statistic. Nevertheless, the foreseeable response by most would be something along the lines of fashion being a superficial industry. To a certain extent I can't blame them because, when put plane and simply, fashion is a visual and external form of expression; however, it truly goes beyond that initial reaction. Over the years, fashion has served as a reflection of the cultural movement specific to a certain decade in history. Fashion is a portal into a different time because it encompasses so much of what daily life was like then. My point is, I guess, I wonder if years from now someone my age will want that vintage “00’s” look. Fashion is cyclical, that's for sure. I just hope that dosen't apply to Ugg boots.

Inspired by the 1930's actress, singer, and dancer, most recognized for her role in the musical 42nd street, Ruby Keeler, Aya Nakagawa undoubtedly produced a breath taking Autumn/Winter collection called "A Quarter to Nine". Wow, did I miss this. As the aforementioned post stated, i've been away at camp for the past eight weeks, and boy does it feel good to be writing on my blog again. Most people at camp talk about how much they miss the comfort of their own home I, however, was iching to get my blog up and rolling again. As it turns out, there was less time than I initially anticipated to post while I was away. That being said, I do have a lot of new ideas and projects that I can't wait to get started on! Before that can happen, I want to apologize for my delayed response to all of the emails I received within these past 2 months. I am making my way through my inbox, and promise to get back to all of you as soon as I can. Well, in any event, it's going to be a good year with tons of exciting things to look forward to; I can't wait to share them all with you! I saw a photo of this navy poka-doted dress while browsing the web, instantly feel in love with it, and furthermore needed to find the collection it belonged to. I was excited to see other beautiful garments might coincide, with this dress, within this mystery collection. I soon realized it was Madame Hawke, an in house designed collected, found at the Ruby Boutique. I have posted about Ruby Boutique before, which is home to the lables Ruby and Madame Hawke. Like the dress above, the two looks featured directly below, are apart of the Ruby label; Whereas, the last four looks are apart of the Madame Hawke label. Not all of the pieces in these collections fit my personal style, however, there are a few looks I want to add to my closet... especially from the fall/winter collections, but thats for another post.

Jackie Kennedy Onassis

If I did not graduate high school early, and was still enrolled as a high school student, prom would be this Saturday. Don't get me wrong I am nowhere near torn up about that fact that I won’t be attending my senior prom. Lets just say the only way the adjectives bejeweled, bright, revealing, and, flamboyant can be used with a positive connotation is when referring to the fabulous costumes in Moulin Rouge. However, I do wish I had an occasion to wear a floor length gown. I find myself romanticizing about such an event, and I tend to imagine myself in something that Jackie Kennedy might find herself in.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy Onassis, was the demure and cultured First Lady of The White House, during her husband John F. Kennedy’s presidency. After his assassination in 1963, she then married Aristotle Onassis in 1968 until his death in 1975. Jackie’s life was not exactly perfect, yet she always carried herself with an air of class, dignity, and elegance, and will always be remembered as a true icon in American History. It is difficult to sum up someone of Jackie’s stature in a few short paragraphs, I highly suggest doing further research to get a more in depth perspective. That being said I am going to focus on what inspired me about her initially, her style.

Jackie always knew what worked best for her, and was not burdened with thoughts of wanting to look or dress like everyone else. She was confident and independent and exuded her own personality through her clothing. Jackie insisted on wearing sleeveless dresses when they were unheard of. She instantly became a trendsetter. The “Jackie look” made up of classic suits, A-line dresses, little white gloves, and of course pillbox hats is a look that many women try to emulate.

To me, Jackie embodies grace and sophistication. Not only did Jackie have impeccable style, she was extremely intelligent and known for her contributions to the arts and historic preservation. She was never caught at a bad moment; Jackie Kennedy Onassis was always the picture perfect.

The Belles of Black Diamond Field is a directing team made of up Maximilla Lukacs and Sarah Sophie Flicker; their work utterly breathtaking. They have an ability to capture raw beauty, in their short films, in a refreshing and inspiring way. The feminine, lovely, dream-like feel with a uniquely beautifully eerie vibe--encompasses their work, in my opinion. It takes true visionaries to bring a poem to life on screen, and that they are with this short film based on the poem "Recuerdo" by Edna St. Vincent Millay staring Karen Elson, Zooey Deschanel and Sarah Sophie Flicker. Ill stop ranting now and let the work of The Belles of Black Diamond Field speak for itself.

Jessie and Buddug - The Shop

“A little bit of the Welsh Countryside in the City.” Jessie Chorley and best friend Buddugwyn Humphreys own their very own studio/shop, tucked away amongst the flowers on 146 COLUMBIA RD LONDON E2 7RG, upstairs above “Marcos and Trump”. Their shop, both in stores and online, is full of unique and lovely decorative objects and jewelry. Jessie said that she creates her collections, “using Papier machér from pages of books combined with stitching and embroidery of old fabric. [. . . ] My current pieces are very much textile based, incorporating small found objects and pieces of worn jewelry, they are simple illustrations, embroidered directly in to the fabric or paper using only hand embroidery”. You know how exciting it is when you discover that buried treasure in thrift/vintage store? Oh, how I love the talented people at Underlining Colours (which is going through some big changes that, with their permission, I will inform you of soon!). Underlining Colours', Niclas Heikkinen, has collaborated with Love Magazine's Senior Fashion Editor Anders and British Vogue's Art Director Jaime Perlman and created a short film-which can be viewed here. This video was made for Test which is "a visual platform that fuses a combination of new and established artists on a constantly changing series of image-led projects. My current obsession with early the 1960’s has been dually noted, I’m sure, well at least my mom has given me that impression; I definitely talk about enough. Needless to say, upon hearing that Dear Creatures’ spring 2010 collection invokes inspiration from the 1964 French film entitled The Umbrellas of Cherbourg directed by Jacques Demy, I couldn’t wait to see the lookbook! Demy’s musical love story visualizes the beauty of emotion, and opens with a beautiful overhead shot of different colored umbrellas twirling in the rain. This lovely concept was perfectly translated into the collection. “Dear Creatures creates a mood of Parisian days and nights, while delivering visual optimism at its finest.” Click here to view more of the collection.

This is officially my lucky dress and here's why... Thursday afternoon I was in an automobile accident. The car in front of my was waiting to make a left turn, and I was stopped behind it. The person behind me absentmindedly rear ended my car so hard that the impact forced my car into the one in front of me. Essentially, I guess you could say I was in the middle of a car sandwich. My car is totaled, but I walked away from the accident with just a bruised knee. I am really going to miss my grandma car. Now, the weirdest part about the whole thing was, my coffee that was sitting in the cup holder on my side got everywhere! I mean everywhere, it spilled all over the interior of my car, except on this dress! How weird is that!? Anyway, that's the story of the lucky dress, isn't it bizarre!?

Just by looking at the title of this post, my close friends are probably laughing to themselves. Why, you ask? Well lets just say when someone suggests a pool party I am not exactly the first one to raise my hand in agreement. There are a few reason for this, I suppose. Personally, I find the bathing suits in stores today one of two extremes, either far to revealing and tacky, or just plan matronly looking. That being said, I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I do not own a single bathing suit! With warm weather coming up and on random days already here, got me thinking that I should probably add bathing suits to my spring/summer shopping list. While browsing the Internet, I came across a beautiful lookbook on Modcloth of vintage inspired swimwear! Whoever said you have to compromise your personal style on the beach or by the pool is wrong! After purchasing one of these lovely suits, I just might be the one to actually suggest a pool party in the first place.

Star Lighting

I find this spread lovely and entrancing. Each image can beautifully stand on its own, however, when placed together show the behind the scenes work that is done to create a star. Of course, I am a fan of the vintage-inspired aesthetic, but I wish they stuck to one decade for inspiration. Maybe it is just me, but half of the images look reminiscent of the 1960's while others look more 1940's. Well, whatever the era, that doesn't change that fact that this is a truly amazing editoral spread. I am sorry my blog has been so lackluster these past few weeks but (now here comes the good news) that is purely due to the fact that I am starting my own zine with a friend of mine. I could not be more excited! For those of you who don't know a zine is a nonofficial publication, but hey everyone has to start somewhere. My favorite decade, in regards to fashion, at the moment is the 60's. This decade gave birth to a variety of trends that are still prominent today, take for example the skinny jean worn by Audrey Hepburn in the movie Funny Face. I'd like to again make a point of mentioning the wide variety of trends in the 60's, and lucky for me a few of my favorites are highlighted in Nadinoo's spring/summer '10 collection. I absolutely adore peter pan collars, a-line silhouettes, and high waisted shorts all of which are featured in this adorable collection.

As I have previously mentioned, florals are here to stay. I have come to the conclusion that floral fabrics and prints are not just a trend per say; but a look that will forever and always be viewed as the quintessence of femininity. Floral is a timeless pattern that crosses over through seasons, however, these floral booties wont be "in" forever like the pattern itself will. It's collection's like this one that make me check the 10-day forecast so frequently, hoping that warmer weather will be just around the corner. Stephanie Tran's Duskin spring/summer 2010 line is so angelic, isn't it? The simple silhouettes beautifully complement the floral and embellished fabrics, giving each look a whimsical feel. I am particularly partial to the black and white high waisted button up cotton dresses with the cut out circular overlays. Come spring what girl doesn't want to look effortlessly etherial? I am bursting with joy and am so delighted to share my exciting news!! Last Wednesday, I was invited to participate in a special fashion blogger conference call with THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE director R.J. Rare High Summer

Fun and playful are the first two words that come to mind when looking at Rare's newest collection. I love the light pastel color pallet with contrasting colored detail (red floral detail on the pastel green dress). I am especially a fan of the look on the lower left. The soft, lace-like mini skirt paired with, a structured, bulky-top, is a strong statement but made wearable with the color choice. I can't believe I'm saying this but, I am actually excited to see what the spring/summer clothes have in store (pun intended).
